Gibraltar Barn

The inspiration for this song came out of a conversation
had many years ago with a very unassuming individual
who most people would walk past in the supermarket.
The description and idea of ‘Gibraltar Barn’ stayed with
me in my musical ‘Bone Yard’ for a long time until now.
Here’s a tribute to the extreme bravery & sacrifice of
the women & men of the Special Operations Executive.
They left the relative safety & comfort of wartime
England to work alongside the resistance forces of
Europe at extreme risk to themselves but all for a
‘greater good’.
Flying from RAF Tempsford airfield in Bedfordshire,
for most of them, the Gibraltar Barn (where they were
equipped including a cyanide capsule), would be their
last glimpse of safety, most of them did not return.
The Barn is now presevered, dedicated to the memory
of these very brave people as you can see from this
